The State of Ethical Marketing: The Consequences of Baby Einstein, Web Tracking and More

Clearly, US consumers are being misled about certain products. The business community has felt growing consumer distrust all too often during this past year of economic hardship. Whether the questions are about pharmaceutical companies, consumer products manufacturers or the financial sector, polls show sinking public confidence in the ethics of business or in the claims they make about their products.

Examples of unethical, misleading product marketing arrive daily through email, website and traditional advertising, coloring consumer attitudes toward even the most reputable companies and products.

Government Ethics Edges Out Economy as Top Issue Among Voters...

A new survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports shows that government ethics and corruption has edged out the economy as a top issue for voters. This finding is not surprising when you consider some of the key government ethical violations (or accusations of) during 2009.

From The Justice Department's complaint against Rod Blagojevich for several "pay to play" schemes  "to obtain personal gain ... through the corrupt use" of his authority to fill Obama's senate seat to Mark Sanford's famous "hike on the Appalachian Trail," it is no wonder that 83% of those surveyed rate this issue as #1.
