Raising the Stakes in the Fight Against Global Corruption
"Corruption is a global problem that knows no borders," said US Attorney General Eric Holder before the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) on May 31, 2010. "And that's why corruption demands a truly global response - one that knows no limits on collaboration."
The cost of corruption - to the public, companies and governments - is enormous. The World Bank estimates that more than $1 trillion in improper payments is paid each year, accounting for nearly 3% of the world's $30 trillion economy. Multi-national companies in particular have long complained about the cost of bribery on their abilities to compete globally.

CEOs Say Sustainability is More Important
Despite the recent economic downturn, a survey of 766 CEOs indicates that sustainability has become more important, not less important. The study conducted by the UN Global Compact and Accenture reports that 80% of the surveyed CEOs point to consumers as the most significant driver in raising the profile of sustainability in corporate enterprises.
