AdvaMed and Kaplan EduNeering Introduce Online Training for New Code of Ethics on Interactions with Health Care Professionals

Only AdvaMed-approved Code Training for Medical Technology Industry

June 8, 2009 – Washington DC and Princeton, New Jersey – AdvaMed, the world’s largest medical technology trade association and Kaplan EduNeering, a leading provider of compliance and knowledge management solutions, are launching the first AdvaMed-approved training course for AdvaMed’s Code of Ethics in Interactions with Health Care Professionals (the Code).   The Code sets out the principles guiding Medical Device Companies (Companies), both AdvaMed members and nonmembers, in facilitating ethical interactions between Companies and Health Care Professionals in order to ensure that medical decisions are based on the best interests of the patient.

A pioneer in online learning, Kaplan EduNeering works with AdvaMed to develop unique online compliance learning solutions for the Medical Technology industry.  In addition to the new Code training, AdvaMed-approved Kaplan EduNeering solutions address regulatory topics including FDA Inspections and Enforcement, Quality Systems Regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices.  The new “Basics of AdvaMed Code” course, which takes about an hour to complete is available for purchase via the AdvaMed web site (for individuals or small groups), or directly with Kaplan EduNeering (for Companies).

According to Steve Ubl, president and CEO of AdvaMed, “We strongly encourage all Medical Device Companies to adopt the Code and implement an effective compliance training program.  The new course helps facilitate that goal, by enabling individuals to take the training at any time via the web.  Most important, the course presents the material in an interactive approach that is designed to teach these key compliance principles, while providing an easily accessible guidance document.”

“The new Code reflects AdvaMed’s leadership in promoting industry-wide compliance with the highest standards of ethics, transparency and patient care,” said Lisa Clune, president of Kaplan EduNeering. “This course not only provides training, but tests an individual’s understanding of the Code’s principles and requirements.  It represents an important step in advancing AdvaMed’s goal for voluntary, industry-wide adoption of the Code.  We are now working with AdvaMed on the next steps, including additional courses that dig deeper into specific provisions of the Code.”
